Day 1 : Ceara Coastal Adventure
Fortaleza to Jericoacoara
On arrival in Fortaleza, the state capital of Ceara on the north-facing coast of Brazil, you begin the journey along the spectacular coastline of the Sunshine State of Brazil. The first part of the journey takes you by the highway through the interior of the state. After around four hours you reach the town of Jijoca. Here the adventure really begins! The rest of the journey takes you over the sand, through the dunes, down onto the beach and along past more dunes and Brazilian beach scenery until you arrive in Jeri at some point in the early evening. Hopefully a bright moon will be around to welcome you and light up the dunes and the ocean for you.
Day 2 : Jeri!
Your days in Jeri are all free, free, free to do as much or as little as you please, and there is no better place in Brazil to take your time making such difficult decisions. Life moves at a slow pace in Jeri, the sun rises at 6am and sets at 6pm, just about every day of the year. The full moon also rises and sets at these times. Watching this happen simultaneously, the sun setting into the sea as the moon rises over the dunes, and vice-versa twelve hours later, is a special moment and perhaps the only timing that you need to remember. Otherwise, you can go wherever the mood takes you.
Day 3 : Dunes & Lagoons of Jeri
Your day in Jeri begins not so early as you leave the town by quadbike, passing through the town and behind the rocky headland to the long stretch of sand that is Praia do Prea. The first stop is at the postcard Pedra Furada, the holed rock that sits on the edge of the ocean below the lighthouse. A fun 12km on the sand, with various photo opportunities takes you to the village, where you head inland. The waters of Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Paraiso give ample opportunity for you to relax in the photogenic hammocks placed over the lagoon waters. Lunch can be eaten here, with the final part being the spectacular passage through the white sand dunes of the national park back to Jeri.
Day 4 : Jeri Activities
It is easy to slide into the relaxed atmosphere of Jeri, and slip into a hammock or the warm waters of a beach lagoon for a few minutes or hours. If you can raise yourself to exercise, you can also slide down the huge dunes. Sand-boarding is one of the most popular activities, and also one of the most fun - especially watching somebody else trying it for the first time. Surfing and kite-surfing are popular too, while horse-rides through the dunes and along the beach appeal to many. Snorkelling and diving are easy to arrange when in the town, or just a simple walk on an empty beach and a swim in the tropical ocean is as pleasurable as could be in Jeri.
Day 5 : Parnaiba Delta
A day trip further west takes you along the coastline to Mangue Seco, taking a boat around the mangroves of Guriú and the ruins of Tatajuba. The village was buried by encroaching dunes and abandoned to nature. The Lonely Palm and Beach of Love come next before you cross the Rio Coreaú to Camocim. Roads take you into Piaui State and the Parnaíba Delta for a lunch break. From the Port of Armadillos on Santa Isabel Island a launch trip along the creeks, rivers and estuaries of the delta brings the chance to see monkeys, iguanas, snakes and birds amongst many other animals. After a delta sunset, you return to Jeri, arriving around 9pm.
Day 6 : Lazy Day in Paradise
Your final day in Jericoacoara can be spent in any way that you like with sun guaranteed in Ceara if you want to relax around the village. Ceara promises its visitors that there will be sun on 365 days of the year. The state government even offers refunds for anybody not seeing at least something of the sun every day! The waters of Jericoacoara heat up on the shallow sands as the tide comes in, making them absolute bliss to laze on the edge of the sea and appreciate one of the finest beaches in Brazil. An afternoon caipirinha or two might be an idea, but don\\\'t forget that you have to climb that dune one final time to appreciate your final Jeri Sunset!
Day 7 : Leaving Jericoacoara
Jericoacoara to Fortaleza & Away
Leaving Jeri will not be easy! We are not talking about the long journey back through the dunes to Fortaleza. It will be difficult to leave the tropical waters, the Atlantic breezes and shifting sands, the beautiful sunsets and sunrises, the easy way of living, and the fresh seafood and fruits. Jeri is likely to win a place in your heart and you may promise to return, and hopefully that will be with Brazil Adventure Tours once more. Another option is to take the 4x4 journey from Jericoacoara through the Parnaiba Delta to the Lençois Maranhenses National Park, finishing in Sao Luis, a golden journey of dunes, lagoons and ocean views.
