Cuiaba - Gateway to the Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park & the Northern Pantanal

Cuiaba is the state capital of Mato Grosso, a huge state of Amazon Rainforest, Cerrado Highlands and enormous ranches. The Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park nearby is an area of waterfalls, panoramic hilltop views and wonderful rock formations, with hiking, bird-watching, waterfalls and excellent ecotourism. Cuiaba is also the arrival point for the Northern Pantanal, the third major ecosystem of Brazil in the area. 

There are also some excellent rivers to explore in the Nobres district, with clear water for snorkelling.

Suitable Destination For: Ecotourism and Wildlife Lovers

Best Time to Visit: The wet seasons for the Cerrado and Pantanal ecosystems are from mid-December to mid-March, so this makes travel more difficult.
