Amazon Gero Tour at Ararinhas Lodge

1-6 Nights in the Amazon Jungle

Amazon Jungle Lodges

Immerse yourself in the Amazon Jungle at one of our Amazon Lodges. Arrive boat and stay at the very edge of the largest river system in the world. Wake up every morning to the staggering sound of the Amazon Dawn Chorus. Witness wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, macaws and even the Amazon River dolphins at such close quarters that they may even become your friends. Trek into the jungle to learn the secrets of the rainforest and how to survive in it. Paddle canoes day and night along the quiet creeks for close-up encounters with caimans. Swing in a hammock at the end of another amazing day in the Amazon Jungle while staying at an Amazon Lodge with Brazil Adventure Tours.

Ararinhas Lodge

This tour of the Amazon takes you to Ararinhas Lodge, using it as a base to explore the Mamori Basin region and to spend some nights in the Amazon Rainforest, sleeping in hammocks and learning survival tricks.

Stays at the lodge can be anywhere from one night to as many as you like, with the possibility of spending some of your time staying in local villages or camping in the rainforest and sleeping in hammocks. A night in Manaus is usually necessary beforehand because of the early start from the city. Accommodation at the lodge can be in hammocks, in a bed as part of a shared room, or in private rooms. The varied accommodation possibilities make a stay in Ararinhas Lodge with Gero and his team a fantastic option for those who prefer a budget Amazon experience.

Itinerary

Day 1
Over the Amazon Jungle to Manaus

Destination: Manaus

Your flight takes you over the Amazon Jungle to Manaus, flying above miles of nothing but green jungle and silver rivers for the final hour or more. The sight of nothing but trees is a special one if the rainforest cloud clears for you. On arrival in the city, you will be met for transfer to your hotel in the city. A tour of Manaus takes in the amazing array of Amazon produce at the Adolpho Lisboa Municipal Market and the Floating Dock on the edge of the Rio Negro. You will then visit the Amazon Theatre, the symbol of the city built during the rubber boom that made Manaus famous around the world. You return to your hotel after the tour with the evening free.
Day 2
Journey to the Jungle with Amazon Gero!

Destination: Manaus to Ararinha Lodge

In the morning you will be picked up at your hotel for the three and a half hour journey by river and through the jungle to Ararinha Lodge on Lake Ararinha. As you cross the Rio Negro from Manaus, your boat makes a stop at the Meeting of the Waters, a natural phenomenon where the Rio Solimoes bringing water down from the Andes meets but doesn't mix with the Negro, with noticeable differences in temperature, density and especially colour! After a drive through the jungle and a final boat trip down creeks and lakes, you arrive at the lodge. Afternoon is spent exploring the area on foot and by boat to learn more about the Amazon ecosystem.
Day 3
Amazon Jungle Activities

Destination: Amazon Gero Tours at Ararinha Lodge

A morning trail hike takes you through the rainforest to find the plants, trees, vines and fruits that are used throughout the region as food, medicine, construction materials and hunting. After lunch back at the lodge, an afternoon trip out along the rivers, lakes and creeks by motor canoe takes you exploring the channels and looking for wildlife such as monkeys and sloth. You can also fish for piranha, the legenday Amazon fish with its sharp teeth that makes up a large part of Amazonian diet, especially the local soup. In the evening you can search for caiman on the muddy riverbanks, and with a little luck you can get a very close-up look at one of the smaller specimens!
Day 4
Rainforest Residents

Destination: Amazon Gero Tours at Ararinha Lodge

An early start in the Amazon is always worthwhile to experience sunrise and the dawn chorus. You can take a canoe out alone and paddle the lake waters to appreciate the scenery and the sounds of birdlife. Howler monkeys are also active and very loud in the first light. You head out to visit more Amazon residents in the morning, with local riverine caboclo families (usually a mixture of indigenous and European ancestry) showing a little of the local culture, preparations and processes required to survive in the Amazon. Afternoon brings observation of the birdlife around the lakes, with sunset over the trees and water another time of day always special.
Day 5
Jungle Experience

Destination: Amazon Gero Tours at Ararinha Lodge

Depending on the weather and ground conditions, one activity that many people take part in during their stay at Ararinha Lodge is to spend a night in the jungle. Taking a canoe trip out and then hiking through the forest, you find an ideal spot for the night, and string up your hammocks between two trees! This will be your base for the evening, with time to explore the area. Dinner is cooked on the fireplace, which also helps to keep away unwanted creatures. The Amazon Rainforest at night is full of wondrous noises from amphibians, mammals and the nocturnal owls and other birds. You can also stay overnight in one of the local villages if you prefer, all of which can be arranged at the lodge.
Day 6
Saying Goodbye to the Amazon

Destination: Amazon Gero Tours at Ararinha Lodge

After breaking camp in the morning, you paddle back to the lodge with more wildlife possibilities along the way. After lunch at the lodge, you begin the return journey to Manaus, either at a hotel for the evening or straight to the airport for flights away. Your Amazon Gero Tour at Ararinha Lodge can be for as few or as many nights as you like. All meals and activities are included, and if you want to spend more time trekking through the jungle and sleeping more nights, this can be arranged. As it is so weather dependent though, then it is best to wait until you arrive in the Amazon to decide whether this is a good idea or not!
